Sara Turner, LCSW, SEP

Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) in the state of Arizona. Offering individual and group therapy to adults in Scottsdale. After completing my undergraduate degree in Family & Human Development, I obtained my Masters degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. Over the last 10 years I’ve worked with adults struggling with an array of mental health challenges in various settings such as crisis stabilization, residential treatment, and Intensive Outpatient Programs.

During my time at The Meadows, I was provided the invaluable and shaping opportunity to learn from some of the pioneers in trauma resolution therapy such as Peter Levine PhD the founder of Somatic Experiencing (SE), Tian Dayton PhD a nationally recognized expert in Sociometrics & Psychodrama, Richard Schwartz PhD the founder of Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Laurence Heller PhD the founder of NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM).

I specialize in the Treatment of Trauma - dedicated to a high level of formal training in Trauma Resolution Therapies: EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Deep Brain Reorienting, Structural Dissociation Theory, and Post Induction Therapy (The Meadows Model),

More About Sara

I am a mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, therapist, business owner. Those are a few hats I wear, but they are not all that I am. Especially as a mom, we can feel bound to that one role and slowly feel like the grip around our sense of self gets looser and looser. You can still be you, while also uncovering this new part of yourself that has emerged through motherhood. It can be full of constant adjustments, and that in itself can be wearing for you and your relationship- but you are still you while navigating how to show up for the ever changing needs of your children.

My natural curiosities about people are what brought me into this field, specifically the trauma I was watching unfold generationally within my own family. Its what started me on this path, and my love for the work has propelled me deeper into my own embodiment and mechanisms of wellness far beyond what I knew was possible. I am committed to bringing the best care to my clients, while also structuring my practice and business in a way that prioritizes my and my family’s needs at this stage in life. Honoring and practicing what I support my clients with, showing up for self and meeting our needs, so we can be the highest version of self.

HOW DO I WORK?

My approach is eclectic, a blend of my training in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Parts Work, and DBR to meet the needs of each individual in front of me. By working collaboratively with you, we work to uncover what is getting in the way of what you want most for yourself. With willingness to change, curiosity, and a safe space we can enhance your internal sense of self, create or re-establish a sense of internal safety, and lead a life feeling more balanced and regulated. I whole heartedly believe each person has an inherent capacity to heal the wounds of their past.
